High quality spirit gums create a very effective strong seal to skin that is virtually sweat and waterproof, so you don't ever want to just pull or lift an appliance or hair piece directly from skin. It can lead to potential skin scarring. Dissolving the bond safely with a skin friendly remover is the way to go, and Graftobian's Spirit Gum remover contains oils that actually leave a moisturizing film behind on skin. This helps to reduce skin sensitivity and redness from the removal process. Most importantly, it doesn't contain any Naphtha, which is a very strong flammable solvent that can cause serious skin irritation.
To use Spirit Gum Remover effectively make sure you have enough of the product on hand so you don't run out of it in the middle of the removal process. Start at an edge of the prosthetic and apply the remover to the side of the edge with a cotton swab, taklon brush or sponged tip applicator. Gently work and lifting the edge at the same time to loosen the bond. Once the corner has lifted soak more of the remover directly under the piece, and begin lifting more of the piece as the adhesive becomes saturated and loosened with the remover.
Go slowly and use patience, taking your time, so that you don't irritate the skin in the lifting process. Using this remover takes a bit longer than a solvent remover, and greatly reduces or eliminates skin irritation. Once the piece is completely removed, wipe any remaining adhesive residue on the face with more Spirit Gum Remover. Avoid using remover directly in the eye area as it can migrate and form an annoying film over the eye. Wash skin with soap and water if you want to remove the excess film on skin.
